In the beginning

there was dreamtime.

Turtle-green currents

hung in the cold air

and God created silence.

On the second day

He created shadows.

Aquamarine shadows

of birds in flight.

On another day,

wanting serenity,

God painted the air gold-

sheer as cobwebs.

When a man dies

his soul (which is woman)

white as an almond

gentle and round-

floats forever 

in a sea

of burnished mist.
