Self-taught artist, Fleur de Bondt, has been practicing art since 2013. In her own journey of discovery and growth, Fleur has taken time to help develop the careers or other artists as well. She has worked as the project coordinator for RMB Talent Unlocked for the past five years and is co-founder of the Incognito Art House project.
Fleur uses diverse media to create thought-provoking artworks, incorporating collage, painting, drawing and printmaking into her process. She is passionate about painting but says that her favourite medium is linoleum. She enjoys creating moving "models" out of linoleum for her embossings and monotypes, so she can experiment and produce different versions of the same construct. Unique creations emerge as she reworks and repositions the various moving parts of the "model".
Fleur draws from her subconscious, with memory and the human condition being themes of inspiration and exploration. “Humans are constantly evolving and adapting in an effort to reach a higher state of being. That's the fascinating part of human nature. It is the only way to survive”, says Fleur. She is highly introspective; and her focus in her work, as in life, is the ‘reconstruction of self’. “My work is based on the idea of dissolving and coagulating, taking apart reality, and reconstructing it... The Alchemical process of transmutation is a point of fascination - we go through phases in our lives where we assess ourselves and see what we do and don't need anymore. I take something in its state apart and reconfigure.”
